While doing research for the suspension, it became clear that the company with the best reputation for springs on dirt roads was Old Man Emu. They have been making specialised springs for Landcruisers in Australia for many years, and we could only find favourable reviews about their products. We also went to see the guys at TBR UK and they confirmed that these were the springs of choice for expedition vehicles. Just a matter of deciding what length and what weight. We ended up with 2” lift springs all round, 200kg in the front and 600kg in the back. After installing the springs the rear was considerably taller that the front, in fact it was only the stop on the dampers that prevented the car from sitting even higher. But she soon settled down when we started to load her up. 600kg Extra in the back might sound excessive, but when you take into account the 170l water tank, extra 160l fuel tank and swing out tyre carrier with 3 jerry can holder, all placed behind the rear axle you get the picture. We have found these springs to do exactly what it says on the tin. In fact when you see them the first time they are huge. They make the originals look like they come from a hot hatch. Highly recommended. Even though we have been lifted and are loaded heavy the sway is very well controlled.
Change of plans, folks. Our trip has come to an end. After spending three beautiful months on this continent, it is now time to go back home. Some new adventures to look forward to.. We are now back in Buenos Aires sorting out the paperwork for the shipment of the car and organizing our flight back to Europe. We will put our forces together in the next few days to sort out the website and share our experience with you. Love. I & D
