Our Cruiser has disk brakes all round with drums only for the Parking brake. We have read before that other owners complain about the life they get from their pads. This is mainly due to the fact that the cruiser can weigh as much as 3.5 tons when loaded and that the pads are about the same size as those on a Golf. This problem is exagerated when using non genuine parts. With this in mind we went to our local stealership to order pads. But they want almost a £100 for the front set. We can buy a stamped set for £10. So we decided that for the difference in price we can order ten sets of the unbranded pads, how bad can they really be.
Having driven on these now for almost 8000km I have to say that if I could go back, I would install the genuine item. The pirate pads are not nearly as good as the originals. First of all they overheat very quickly. So much so that we were left with no brakes coming down a mountain pass on more than one occasion. Also they are forever squeeling. Whether under braking or not. And we had an incident with one of the brake caliper bolts fell out. Not sure if this is because of the pads, but I would not rule that out.
Stick with the original pads, not worth it trying to save a few quid. Especially not if your truck is loaded very heavy.

Buenos Aires
26 Mar 2010
Change of plans, folks. Our trip has come to an end. After spending three beautiful months on this continent, it is now time to go back home. Some new adventures to look forward to.. We are now back in Buenos Aires sorting out the paperwork for the shipment of the car and organizing our flight back to Europe. We will put our forces together in the next few days to sort out the website and share our experience with you. Love. I & D
